An Atheist's Creed. Posted by Dr. Bob on at pm in Religion and the Religious, Atheism and Atheists; View Discussions; Blundered across this in an academic paper, put together by a U.K. professor of philosophy, purporting to be the distilled creed/philosophical arguments for the Dawkins' style New Atheism.   It is about humanity as one of the highest forms of virtue, one that surpasses any limitation of status or creed. It is also about privacy and intimacy. About generosity and propagation of kindness. “The Atheist’s Mass” is so much more than a short story.

Prayer: An Autobiography of a Jewish Atheist in the Bible Belt has listed “Ten Things I wish everyone knew about atheism.” 1. The prefix “a” can mean “anti” or “non.” While some atheists are anti-theists, most are non-theists who have no desire to destroy religion. We don’t have a problem with believers.   I'm an atheist, and while I would love to claim President Lincoln as a fellow bretheren in disbelief, it doesn't seem altogether correct. In his early years he seemed to have had a poor view of religions and Christianity, and even while President disdained Christian hypocrites who could call upon God's bounty while profiting from the flesh of slaves.

This is not the atheists' creed, this is the secular creed; secular is usually said in respect to governments not acknowledging ANY belief, nor a lack thereof. I would be perfectly happy with a secular gov't. that follows this creed. ‘Theism’ means ‘belief in a god or gods’. Believers usually sign up to the values and principles of a godly belief system: it’s an ideology. Theistic ideologies are commonly known as faiths or religions. Many ideologies have the suffix ‘ism’; for example, liberalism, socialism, and communism but, in the case of ‘atheism’, the ‘ism’ ending has merely been inherited from.
